Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Monday to assess the preparedness to tackle the fallout from Cyclone Biparjoy. The PM took stock of the situation and directed officials to ensure the maintenance of essential services with preparedness for immediate restoration in the event of damage.
To ensure the safety of people, the PM also asserted that all measures would be taken to for the evacuation of people living in vulnerable locations.
"Take every possible measure to ensure evacuation of people living in vulnerable locations," PM Modi said at the Cyclone Biparjoy review meet.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed five teams in Mumbai, and four more in Gujarat to tackle any emergency. "Due to Cyclone Biporjoy, we have deployed two teams in addition to the already available three teams in Mumbai as a precautionary measure. Further, we have moved four other teams to Gujarat, as Cyclone Biporjoy is expected to have a greater impact there. "In addition, our teams at Pune are also ready," NDRF officials said earlier.
The Union Home Ministry has also been reviewing the situation around the clock, and 12 NDRF teams have already been deployed, while 15 are on standby.
Biparjoy has already developed into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm", the second highest category according to strength.
