Nagpur: As part of their nationwide campaign on Sunday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members in Nagpur also took out a rally to protest against what they alleged were anti-democracy steps by the central government. The party members gathered in huge numbers at Samvidhan Chowk on Sunday morning, where senior party leaders like Devendra Wankhede and
Jagjit Singh talked about the reason for their rally.
The rally was against the ordinance by the central government which they said would interfere in the way services were being provided to people in Delhi. AAP chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has accused the Centre of ‘snatching the rights’ of the people of Delhi and said that his party would not allow it to happen.
In Delhi, the rally was held at Ramlila Maidan.
In Nagpur, the rally started from Samvidhan Chowk, and made its way to Variety Square, to Jhansi Rani Square to Munje Square and back to Variety Square, informed Bhushan Dhakulkar, secretary of AAP (Nagpur city).
Wankhede, AAP’s Vidarbha convenor, said, “Eight years ago, the central government issued a notification and took over Delhi government’s power to make appointments and transfers of officials. The issue went to the Supreme Court which ruled in favour of Delhi government. But central government, on the day the court’s vacation started, issued an ordinance and took over the powers (to transfer and appoint officers) again. This act in itself is about killing democractic values in our country.”
AAP currently has 62 MLAs in the 70-seat Delhi state assembly. Senior AAP leader Jagjit Singh said, “Though AAP has been elected through democractic means, the central government is interfering in its functioning through the governor.”
