NEW DELHI: BJP on Sunday came down heavily on Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal after his speech at Ramlila Maidan, calling him “corrupt” and his party a “Khas Aadmi Party”.
North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari said the Ramlila Maidan needs to be purified with pure water after a few days of Kejriwal’s rally. The king reached Ramlila from a house and vehicles worth crores, he said.
“I recall Kejriwal sharing the dais with Anna Hazare during the India Against Corruption protest at Ramlila ground and claiming to be against corruption. He was again heard screaming from Ramlila ground, this time to cover up his corruption,” Tiwari said in a press conference at the BJP headquarters along with Delhi state president Virendra Sachdeva and MP Ramesh Bidhuri.
Tiwari accused Kejriwal of being a “political tourist”, visiting different cities across the country while turning a blind eye to such problems as dirty water supply and pollution in the Yamuna. “He takes votes from the people of Delhi to visit different states but he will not go to areas of Delhi where dirty water is coming,” he said.
Delhi BJP president Sachdeva said, “The kind of language used by the CM is cheap. You say anything to hide your corruption. Kejriwal has shamed Delhi’s people with his low standard of speech at the rally and by asserting that there were hundreds of Sisodias and Jains in his party. Did he mean to say that the entire AAP is corrupt?” Sachdeva asked.
He launched a political campaign called ‘Selfie With Corruption Ka Rajmahal’ from Connaught Place during which a purported miniature version of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s house was displayed.
He said that the campaign has been launched to “expose the corruption” in the renovation of Kejriwal’s official residence. The BJP has been alleging that over Rs 52 crore was spent in the renovation of Kejriwal’s official residence and there had been corruption in it.
“The campaign will be effective in exposing the reality of Kejriwal in front of all of Delhi. In Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has done corruption by spending crores of people’s hard-earned money on his bungalow and we will take the issue of corruption to every house in Delhi through the selfie campaign,” Sachdeva said.
This campaign will be run in all the assemblies across Delhi, he added.
AAP did not respond to BJP’s campaign call.
“The person who swore on his children that he will not take a bungalow, that person gathered people today in the same Ramlila Maidan in support of his corruption,” Sachdeva said.
In a separate statement, the BJP leader of opposition in the assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, said Kejriwal should stop giving a clean chit to his former ministers and tell the people why their bail was not granted for months if they were not involved in any scam.
