Coimbatore: The Anaimalai police arrested six people, including a woman, on Sunday for stealing 1.37 crore from a businessman.
G Prakash, 44, of Telungupalayam in Coimbatore city, a gold trader, recently took 80 lakh housing loan from a private bank at Gandhipuram. Bank manager Vedhashankar introduced Chinna Kutty of Pollachi, a realtor, to Prakash.
The manager said Chinna Kutty would give 1 crore in 2,000 denomination notes if Prakash gives him the 80 lakh in 500 denomination notes. Prakash expressed interest in the deal and was asked to visit Pollachi.
On Saturday, Prakash, his uncle Balaji, acting driver Anand and the private bank’s sales manager Yakulraj reached Pollachi in an SUV with 1.37 crore in 500 denomination notes. Chinna Kutty came there around 12pm in a sedan with a man and a woman. After talks, they dropped Balaji and Anand at Mahalingapuram.
Prakash, Yakulraj and Chinna Kutty left for Ambarampalayam with Chinna Kutty at the SUV’s wheels. The woman and the man followed them in the sedan.

Meanwhile, Chinna Kutty engaged in talks with Prakash and Yakulraj and diverted their attention, and the woman and the man shifted the 1.37 crore from the SUV to the sedan. Chinna Kutty suddenly ran towards the sedan and the trio escaped from the place.
Prakash and Yakulraj tried to chase the car, but failed and alerted the Anaimalai police.
