The High Court of Bombay at Goa in a case related to traffic management for Panaji has appointed the transport secretary as the nodal officer to coordinate with departments, authorities and stakeholders.
The High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the traffic management issue as Panaji is encountering regular traffic jams in
the recent times.
The High Court has directed the nodal officer to hold meetings with all the stakeholders including the company executing the Panaji Smart City works and to submit a provisional traffic plan for the city by July 14. The High Court will hear the matter on July 17.
The High Court had during an earlier hearing issued notices to the transport department, tourism department, PWD, CCP and Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd in the matter.
The High Court had asked these government agencies to see if a solution can be found by taking expert opinion to reduce the hardships caused to commuters. The commuters are being made to go through several hardships for past several days due to heavy traffic congestions on Merces-Panaji-Porvorim road stretch due to the ongoing works.
