Ubisoft Forward 2023: How to watch and what to expect

Ubisoft will hold its next video game showcase later today. The latest in its Ubisoft Forward series of live streams, this will be a live event in Los Angeles that will provide updates on many of the company’s upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Considering much of Ubisoft’s lineup has suffered some sort of delay over the past year or two, this Ubisoft Forward is the company’s best chance to reaffirm confidence in its upcoming game lineup.

Fans of series like Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, and and The Crew will want to tune in to 2023’s Ubisoft Forward to see what’s next for their favorite franchises. Those who want to learn more about previously teased titles like Star Wars Outlaws will also want to watch. If this is a show you’re interested in, we’re breaking down how you can watch the showcase and what you should expect from it.

When is Ubisoft Forward 2023

The pre-show for this year’s Ubisoft Forward will begin at 9:45 a.m. PT today, June 12. That preshow will last 15 minutes, so if you only care about the biggest announcements, you don’t need to worry about tuning in until 10 a.m. PT today.

How to watch Ubisoft Forward 2023

There are two primary places to watch this year’s Ubisoft Forward: the company’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. We’ve even embedded the YouTube live stream above, so you can watch it from this article when the presentation begins. Those who want Twitch Drops may want to consider watching the Ubisoft Forward from there, as watching on that platform will net players items in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Riders Republic, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

What to expect from Ubisoft Forward 2023

In terms of what will be shown off at the event, Ubisoft has confirmed that the showcase will feature “upcoming Ubisoft games, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, The Crew Motorfest, and more.” Hopefully, we get an even deeper look at Mirage‘s gameplay following its release date reveal at the PlayStation Showcase last month, as well as release dates for those other two titles.

During the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, Meta confirmed that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR would also appear during this presentation, while a gameplay reveal for Star Wars Outlaws was confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase. We’ll also likely see more of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was revealed during Summer Game Fest. Ubisoft also has plenty of other announced titles without release dates like Skull & Bones, XDefiant, Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, Heartland, Beyond Good and Evil 2, and a remake of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell that it can possibly show off.

If nothing else, we hope to have a clear picture of what Ubisoft’s release lineup will look like for the next year following this showcase.

Microsoft has confirmed rumors that it will be holding a game showcase later this month. Called a Developer_Direct, this livestream will take place later today and feature updates on Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda games launching over the next few months, like Redfall.  Xbox doesn't typically do that many games showcases outside of events like E3, so this Developer_Direct seems like Microsoft's own take on the Nintendo Direct or State of Play formula.

The next Assassin's Creed is fast approaching, but this one isn't quite like the last few we've had. Rather than follow the open-world, western RPG style that Origins kicked off, Assassin's Creed Mirage is taking things back to basics in a lot of ways. It will be a more focused, story-heavy game that takes place primarily in just one city and will only last around 20 hours instead of up to 200. The focus once again is on stealth and using your skills to assassinate targets, as well as your parkour and tools.

Just because Assassin's Creed Mirage was built off of what was first intended to be DLC for Valhalla, that doesn't mean it isn't going to have just as much care and attention put into it as any other Ubisoft title. In line with this, there are three individual editions of the game already up for pre-order to pick from. Whether you've been with the brotherhood since the inception of the hidden blade or jumped in when RPG mechanics and loot were brought onboard, there's a lot of content between the different editions to choose between. Everything announced at the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward

Over the summer, Ubisoft opted to individually showcase Skull & Bones and place Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope in a Nintendo Direct Mini, so it skipped out on holding its own dedicated showcase. Today, the French game publisher revived the Ubisoft Forward showcase series brand for a new presentation highlighting Ubisoft's upcoming titles.
The pre-show highlighted updates for Anno 1800, Brawlhalla, For Honor, The Crew 2, and more. Then, the main Ubisoft Forward show contained some deep dives into Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Skull & Bones, in addition to an entire segment dedicated to Assassin's Creed Mirage and the first two games included in Assassin's Creed Infinity. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope gameplay video introduces Terra Flora and Rayman
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope: Wiggler Boss Fight Gameplay Preview | #UbiForward
Ubisoft gave us another in-depth look at Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope ahead of its release next month. During its segment that kicked off the main show, we got a look at gameplay on Terra Flora, one of the game's worlds, and saw a boss fight against a Wiggler.
Ubisoft confirmed that the game will receive at least three pieces of DLC. The third post-launch update pack will introduce Rayman as a playable character, although we didn't see any gameplay from it. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope releases as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on October 20, 2022.
Skull & Bones reveals more details about its pirate adventure

Ubisoft's long-in-development pirate game Skull & Bones got a spotlight during the Ubisoft Foward show. Its segment started by highlighting The Helm, which will serve as the player's base of operations. Ubisoft then showed the game's Insider Program and ship customization. It also confirmed that PvP can be turned off and that Skull & Bones will have cross-play. The game is scheduled to launch on November 8. 
Netflix partners with Ubisoft for 3 mobile games 

Netflix announced that it is working with Ubisoft to bring three new games exclusively to Netflix Games. The first is Valiant Hearts 2, a World War 1 game that will release in January 2023. The second is a sequel to The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, which will release sometime later on in 2023. Finally, a mobile Assassin's Creed game is in the works and will release exclusively through Netflix Games. A live-action Assassin's Creed show and multiple animated series are also in the works at Netflix. 
Assassin's Creed Mirage brings the series back to basics in 2023

After a lot of leaks and an official announcement from Ubisoft, we finally got an in-depth look at Assassin's Creed Mirage during that series' portion of the showcase. It got a lengthy cinematic trailer before its Narrative Director explained how the game goes back to basics in its Baghdad setting and features voice work from actress Shohreh Aghdashloo. Ubisoft also confirmed that the game will release across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023, with those who pre-order getting access to an exclusive questline titled The Forty Thieves. 
Assassin's Creed Infinity includes games set in Japan and the Holy Roman Empire
For those that like the more modern style of Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft also gave a look at the first two games that will be part of Assassin's Creed Infinity. Affirming Bloomberg's report from last week, Codename Red developed by Ubisoft Quebec is an Assassin's Creed RPG experience set in feudal Japan where players control a Shinobi.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft Montreal's Codename: Hexe is set during witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire. These games are further out than Assassin's Creed Mirage, so we didn't see much of them beyond teaser footage. Both games will be housed within Assassin's Creed Infinity, a hub platform for future games. Ubisoft also noted that it's looking into creating standalone multiplayer Assassin's Creed games, which may also live within Infinity.
