PATNA: People can heave a sigh of relief as the scorching temperatures are expected to subside with the arrival of rainfall and thunderstorm in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorm activities in northern, south-central and south-east parts of the state on Monday.
"We expect the onset of the southwest monsoon over north Bihar on June 13. It advanced into various parts, including parts of the central Arabian Sea, entire southwest and parts of west central Bay of Bengal, parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, and remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal on Sunday," said Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre.
While the arrival of the monsoon is expected to bring relief to many parts of Bihar, a yellow alert for heatwave conditions has been issued in several areas of south Bihar, including Aurangabad and Bhojpur, till June 15.
The evening bulletin from the Patna Meteorological Centre revealed that nine districts, including Patna, Khagaria, Banka, and Nalanda, experienced heatwave conditions. Additionally, severe heatwave was declared at Motihari in East Champaran. The highest maximum temperature recorded in Aurangabad reached a scorching 43.8 degrees C, closely followed by Dehri in Rohtas at 43.4 degrees C. Patna registered a maximum temperature of 42.9 degrees C.
Motihari topped the charts on Friday, with a "feel like" temperature of 55.11 degrees C, followed by Khagaria at 54.99 degrees C. Patna reported a "feel like" temperature of 51.84 degrees C.
"Dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over Patna in the coming few days, with thunderstorm and lightning activities expected in the district on June 14 or 15. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist over parts of south Bihar till June 15," said Singh.
Patna recorded light rainfall accompanied by winds in the evening. The change in weather came as a relief for people in the city.
