12-year-old Aditya swims across Yamuna in 14 mins
Prayagraj: A 12-year-old boy from the city, Aditya Narayan Chadha, who learnt swimming in 20 days, crossed the Yamuna river in 14 minutes here, on Sunday.
A class VII student of St Joseph’s College and resident of Gujarati Mohallah, under the guidance of his trainer Manas Nishad, started swimming from Meerapur Sindhu Sagar ghat (Kakraha ghat) at 6.15 am and crossed over to reach the Vidhyapeeth Maheva ghat at 6:29 am amid a strong current of the river.
The boy who weighs 50 kg stunned his trainers as well as a large number of people who arrived on the banks of Yamuna to take a glimpse of the event.
Trainer Tribhuwan Nishad told TOI: “Little children are committed to achieving success and making their parents and trainers proud through determination and hard work”. He added, “Aditya was highly excited to carve a niche for himself by crossing the river which is 600 meters wide and 25 feet deep”.
Aditya’s father Dr Rajesh Chadha, and mother Dr Ritu Kapoor along with other family members are proud of his achievement. On Monday, three children, including Adhya Sahu (8), Vihan Nishad (9) and Ashna Bhargava ( 6) will make an attempt to cross the Yamuna.
