Pimpri Chinchwad police Saturday arrested a 32-year-old man and seized three pistols and four cartridges from him.
The accused was identified as Riyaz Mehboob Korbu, a resident of Ota Scheme in Nigdi, a suburb in Pune.
Acting on a tip-off, police said that they laid a trap and intercepted a car on Katepimple Road at around 6.30 pm on Saturday (June 10). After nabbing Riyaz, who was driving the car, police recovered three country-made pistols and four live cartridges from the vehicle.
Police said that the accused was planning to sell the firearms to someone and that a probe is on to find out his source and the intended buyer.
A press release issued by the police on Sunday stated that the accused was booked in seven offences previously and is on the records of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural police. The arrest was carried out following a tip to Sub-Inspector Shakir Jenedy and was carried out by a team led by senior police inspector Ram Rajmane.
