Students organisation announces protest against TN governor on June 16
Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi
CHENNAI: Condemning Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi for delaying the convocation in universities and delaying the pending bills passed by the state assembly, the Federation of Students Organisation (FSO) on Monday announced a protest at Chinnamalai in Chennai on July 16.
FSO comprises 15 student associations.
In in a joint statement, FSO coordinators C V M P Ezhilarasan (Kancheepuram MLA) and Niruban Chakraborty said more than nine lakh students were affected due to the delay in convocations. "Usually, in the convocations held in the universities, educationalists from the state will be invited. But the governor is interested in inviting people from north India having 'sanathana' ideologies. Due to this, the convocation is delayed in Anna University and 12 other universities, and 9.29 lakh students are affected," they said.
Calling the governor "the special TN BJP state president," FSO alleged that "governor is acting as an agent of the Union government to destroy the educational and industrial progress of the state."
FSO alleged that the governor was acting against the Indian Constitution in the appointment of vice-chancellors. "Universities are established through laws. A three-member search committee will be appointed to select vice-chancellors. The persons recommended by the search committee will be appointed as VCs, but the governor goes against the rules in the appointment of VCs due to which a couple of universities do not have VCs at present," said FSO.

On April 25, the state assembly passed bills to appoint vice-chancellors for universities and the governor has not given assent to the bills so far, added FSO.
