Unpaved & ridden with craters: Travel on this e-way link is a nightmare
Gurgaon: Residents are forced to navigate through huge potholes while commuting on a key road that is connected with Dwarka Expressway in sectors 83 and 84.
The 3km stretch linking Dwarka Expressway and Kherki Daula has been in a dilapidated condition for the last three years, according to residents. More than 10,000 people are living in these sectors. The link road was earlier part of the expressway and later, with the change in alignment, its was left out.
It witnesses heavy movement of commercial and private vehicles on a daily basis. Apart from vehicles frequently getting damaged, people are facing health concerns due to the poor condition of the road, the residents said. Despite several complaints to the civic authorities, no measures have been taken to repair the road. “Though the CPR and Dwarka Expressway will provide a much-needed alternative connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon, it is, however, a pity that authorities are sleeping on the condition of connecting roads. The sector road of 83 and 84 connecting to CPR is in a pathetic state with potholes, waterlogging and encroachments. It becomes even impossible for commuters to use the road during monsoons. The civic authorities need to take prompt action before any major mishap,” Kapil Dev Mittal, RWA vice president of Mapsko Paradise, said.
A GMDA official said they are engaging a consultant to prepare the DPR for the left out portion of Dwarka Expressway. “We have already taken up the matter and are engaging a consultant for preparation of the detailed project report. Although we have filled up the potholes through granule materials multiple times, there is a major issue of waterlogging on that stretch. We will carry out the repair work to make it motorable once the road gets dry,” Amit Godara, executive engineer of GMDA, said.
The residents, however, are not convinced. Dinesh Garg, vice president of Gurgaon One, said, “The road is neither motorable nor safe to commute and we have been forced to travel in this condition for many years. There is no functional drain. Atleast some repair must be done by GMDA before the monsoon to ease our suffering.”
