Mangaluru: Minister for health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is also in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, said that priority will be given for development works and maintaining law and order for peace and communal harmony in the district.
Rao told reporters on Sunday that an anti-communal wing in Mangaluru commissionerate limits to check moral policing being mulled by home minister G Parameshwara will be launched.
“I will check the status of the wing with the home minister. As the home minister himself has mooted it, it will be implemented. The anti-communal wing is not aimed at creating hate in the society. Instead, it aims at acting against the perpetrators of moral policing. Police need to take stringent action against those who take law into their hands. Harmony is essential for the development of the district, job creation and to attract investments,” he said, appealing to people, irrespective of their political affiliations, to join hands with the administration to restore peace in the district.
To a query on the government’s plan to review the allotment of government land to RSS and other organisations during the tenure of previous BJP government, Rao said that the revenue department will review whether rules were flouted while allotting government land. “The government land should be utilised only for productive purposes. Any loopholes in allotments will be rectified,” he said.
“Officials will be directed to take people into confidence while implementing development works,” he said. “Government schemes should be implemented effectively so that the benefits reach eligible beneficiaries. The office of the district minister in Mangaluru will be open to all. I will visit the district frequently and will be in touch with the leaders and various organisations,” he added.
