Mangaluru: A birthday bash at a lodge in Puttur on Friday took an ugly turn when a person allegedly attempted to assault and threaten the youth who was celebrating his birthday. In the melee that ensued, the birthday celebrant broke his teeth after a falling from stairs, while attempting to escape from the spot.
Puttur Town police arrested Prajwal under Section 25(1B)(b) of Arms Act and various provisions of the IPC, including Sections 341, 504, 506 and 324. The arrested was produced before the court. According to police, action has been taken based on a complaint filed by Godwin Dinkar, a salesperson. It is learnt that the complainant, along with four others—Rakshith, Bhavith, Hemanth and Sandes—were celebrating Rakshith’s birthday in a room at the lodge on Friday.
When Godwin was reportedly talking to Prajwal, who is reportedly his friend, over the phone at around 1 am, Rakshith asked him to cut the call saying that they were there to enjoy the birthday party. Accordingly, Godwin cut the call and this probably, did not go well with Prajwal.
Prajwal visited the room after some time and questioned who scolded Godwin to which the latter replied that he was only told to disconnect the call.
Prajwal left the room, but allegedly returned quickly with a weapon and picked up an argument with Rakshith, who was on a phone call. Seeing the weapon in Prajwal’s hands, Rakshith tried to escape but fell from the stairs and broke his teeth.
Prajwal allegedly threatened and abused the complainant and his friends using foul language and left the place. He was later arrested. Rakshith was rushed to a government hospital in Puttur. The case is being investigated, police said.
Meanwhile, a video of the accused holding a talwar and threatening the birthday celebrant has gone viral.
