Wales weather: Thunderstorm warnings issued by Met Office

The Met Office has extended a weather warning for thunderstorms into Monday across large parts of Wales.

A new severe thunderstorm warning covers most of Wales on Monday between 12:00 BST and 21:00.

Torrential downpours may bring disruption to all of the nation, apart from Anglesey, the forecaster said.

Over 30 mm (1.2in) of rain could fall in an hour in some locations and as much as 60 to 80 mm or more in a few hours could fall.

The forecaster also said frequent lightning and hail could be additional hazards.

The warning followed separate alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rain on Sunday.

Prior to the weekend, the last reported rain in Swansea was 8 May, according to BBC weather forecaster Derek Brockway, while in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, rain was last reported on 22 May.
