Residents want ghats, parks & cafes along Yamuna in city
Noida: The Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Association (CONRWA) has written to CEO of Noida and Greater Noida authorities Ritu Maheshwari for developing the Yamuna bank in the city as a tourist destination.
CONRWA members said 33km of the Yamuna passes through Noida and Greater Noida and suggested the development of amusement or theme parks, and cafes on the ghats, as well as boating and water sports facilities. The members said given big businesses and MNCs operate in Noida and that the international airport is coming up at Jewar, developing the river bank will not only generate revenue but also turn it into a tourist destination.
CONRWA has marked a copy of the letter to CM Yogi Adityanath, additional chief secretary SP Goyal, and chairman of Noida Authority and GNIDA Manoj Kumar Singh, who is infrastructure and industrial development commissioner too.
“We have written to the Noida and GNIDA CEO, Ritu Maheshwari, for developing riverfront facilities along the Yamuna in Noida. We have apprised the CEO that 33 km of land along the Yamuna falls in Noida and Greater Noida. Officials can select a suitable area for developing it into a tourist destination,” said CONRWA president PS Jain, adding more and more encroachments are cropping up on the land, which goes against NGT guidelines.
“Given the high-end brands, MNCs, and businesses operating out of the region, it would be a great opportunity for revenue generation,” said BB Walecha co-convener CONRWA, adding the project will get further impetus from international travellers and tourists once the airport becomes operational.
Another suggestion is to develope facilities for national- and international-level water sports along the Yamuna bank. Jain said food parks and cafes offering Indian and international cuisine and drinks on the bank would attract tourists.
“We suggest developing concrete ghats on the lines of the Banaras ghats. Such a project will also generate jobs for locals,” said Jain.
