MUMBAI: Almost a year after a youth was duped of cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 4.39 lakh by his new bride who fled within a week of marriage, Malad police have arrested a man who was part of the con.
The 28-year-old victim, son of a medical shop owner, decided to marry the accused despite knowing she had two children from her previous marriage as he wasn't getting any proposals for marriage because of his stammer. Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested agent Kamlesh Kadam, who introduced accused Asha Gaikwad to the victim. "Initially after the theft, Gaikwad had switched off her mobile, but a few days later she responded to the victim's call and told him that she needed the money to take care of her ailing kids," said a Malad police station officer. Police are now searching for Gaikwad and her sister Manisha Kashyap who was also involved in the fraud. In the complaint, the victim's father said, "Kadam approached us and said he had a girl in mind. They got married, but the woman fled with cash and valuables barely a week later."
