PUNE: An 18-year-old college student on Sunday afternoon drowned in the Pavana river along Somatane village, around 30km from here.
Shirgaon police identified the deceased as Kunal Gawade of Manjari in Hadapsar.
Police said Gawade was in Somatane for an outing with his school friends. "Around 2.30pm, the friends entered the river for a swim. Gawade lost his breath and drowned. A team of Wanyajeev Rakshak, Maval, fished the youth out of the water," an officer from the Shirgaon police said.
He said that the youth was taken to a private hospital in the Somatane Phata area, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

The deceased have been identified as Siddharth Gangurde (17) and Rahul Mahanubhav (18), both residents of Sinnar Phata. While swimming, Gangurde and Mahanubhav found themselves in a strong current of water. Though they tried to swim to the bank, they ran out of breath.
