HYDERABAD: While the state government has decided to reopen schools from June 12, several private schools plan to go online or postpone their opening owing to high heat levels.
Many budget private schools in Hyderabad and districts have informally decided not to open schools on Monday and instead continue with admission drives as the state stares at another bout of high temperatures. Even schools such as Delhi Public School across branches will continue with online classes until the start of monsoon and has shared timetable for half-day classes for the next few days.
Heat

"About 90% of schools are planning to remain shut because weather is just not favourable. We are not even keeping half day because picking up and dropping children is our responsibility in school buses. This will further expose them to heat," said Shekar Rao of Telangana Recognised School Management Association.
Several schools in Warangal have postponed classes to June 15, while in Karimnagar classes till 11:30 am has been planned till June 18. He added that some schools did not even have fans in place or relied on water tankers which was supplying burning hot water.
Among parents most were in favour of postponement. "It is easier if children go to school after start of monsoon otherwise dehydration and other health issues due to high heat can come up. We have planned to not send them until June 15 as either way the first week will only be bridge course," said Divya Kumar, a parent.
However, for some parents the sudden decision for online classes has upset their daily plans.
"For us the online classes are not great news as all of a sudden I had to apply for work from home to look after them," said a parent from DPS Secunderabad.
