4 Children rescued alive from Amazon forest, 5 weeks after plane crash
A massive search operation consisting of 160 soldiers and 70 Indigenous people having intimate knowledge of the jungle, was commenced to track the missing children.

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro confirmed that four children who went missing in the Colombian Amazon forest after a plane crash on May 1, have been rescued alive by the rescue team. Expressing his joy, the president tweeted that four children who were lost 40 days ago in the Colombian jungle were found alive.
The four children who were lost in the forest are siblings from the indigenous community. They were rescued by the military who were in close proximity to the site of the crash. The accident took place near the border between Colombia’s Caqueta and Guaviare provinces. The Cessna 206 plane crashed after it suffered an engine failure. The plane was traveling to San Jose del Guaviare, a city in Guaviare from Araracuara in Amazonas province. Reports claim that the plane crash had claimed the lives of three people including the children’s mother Magdalena Mucuty and the pilot. The deceased bodies were tracked down by the search team inside the aircraft.
The three children aged 13, 9, 4 years old and a 12-month old infant, who are now rescued and have survived the impact, were believed to have fled the accident spot in search of help. The fact that the children were rescued alive leaves everyone astonished as the site of the crash is home to Jaguars, snakes, and other predators together with an armed drug smuggling group.
According to reports, a massive search operation consisting of 160 soldiers and 70 Indigenous people having intimate knowledge of the jungle, was commenced to track the missing children. The Colombian army also deployed aeroplanes and helicopters in their rescue efforts. The rescue team, accompanied by search dogs, discovered discarded fruits that the children may have eaten for their survival.
Furthermore, the rescue team, being concerned about the continuous movement of the children, used the air force to drop 10,000 flyers into the forest with instructions asking them to stay put. The leaflet also laid down survival tips. In an effort to keep the children alive, the military also dropped food parcels and bottled water to ascertain that the children could survive until the rescue operations were completed. According to military officials, the children were rescued five kilometers west of the crash site.
