THORRUR: Nearly a dozen women from Hyderabad rushed to Thorrur in Mahabubabad district on Saturday morning, thrashed an alleged occult practitioner and rescued a housewife from his clutches. Later, they handed over the culprit, Edurukatla Yakaiah alias Srinivas, to police for reportedly exploiting women.
On Saturday, a women's society members from Parsigutta in the city hatched a plan to trap Yakaiah, a resident of Peddavangara in Thorrur, for performing sorcery and witchcraft in the name of rituals and subjugating women.
Earlier, a housewife from Parsigutta had approached Yakaiah for her health troubles. Taking advantage of her plight, Yakaiah allegedly subjugated her and started dema-nding money. As the harassm-ent continued, she approached the Parsigutta Women's Society. She claimed Yakaiah demanded 6 lakh and asked her to visit him with her two daughters. If she fails to do so, he threatened to damage her reputation by posting her photos on social media platforms, Thorrur police said.
As per the women's society members' plan, they made the housewife call up Yakaiah and inform him about her location. After receiving her phone call, he informed her that he was near Thorrur bus stop, according to Dappu Sunitha of Parsigutta Women's Society.
Learning about his whereabouts, the society members landed at the location and caught him at the bus stop. They started beating him on the road itself and tore his shirt. Thorrur sub-inspector Satish said a case was registered against the culprit.
