Thane: A 30-year-old Sangli resident was arrested by Naupada police for allegedly posting objectionable content against
Shiv Sena MP Dr Shrikant Shinde and senior
BJP leader and union cabinet minister
Narayan Rane on social media, the police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Pravin Pawar, had allegedly posted the offensive messages aimed at Shinde’s family and also uploaded a morphed image lampooning Rane and his two sons.
Dattatreya Gawas, a city functionary of the Shiv Sena, spotted the allegedly offensive messages on Friday evening and registered a complaint with Naupada police that tracked down the accused to Kadegaon village in Sangli.
“The accused is unemployed. He has no political affiliations. We tracked him down with the help of the local police and arrested him. He was presented before the court on Saturday that sent him to three days of police custody,” said DCP
Ganesh Gawde (Zone-I Thane).
In the past, Thane city had witnessed incidents of offensive messages being posted on social media allegedly by political rivals. A Shiv Sena (UBT) functionary had allegedly posted a message against chief minister Eknath Shinde and family while three years ago a civil engineer had allegedly posted a morphed message against NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad.
