NASHIK: North
Maharashtra will likely have to wait till June 20 to witness the first monsoon
rain as it is yet to advance in Goa.
The atmospheric conditions are building up for monsoon as parts of Nashik and north Maharashtra region have witnessed thunder and lightning but it may take more time for the onset of monsoon
“Currently pre-monsoon showers are expected to hit the north Maharashtra region where all five districts have been issued yellow alert for Sunday and Monday. But the monsoon rain is likely to take at least five more days from the regular time,” said a senior officer from India Meteorological Department, Mumbai.
The officer said the normal date of monsoon onset in north Maharashtra is June 15 as Mumbai gets rain on June 11. “There is some delay of monsoon in Mumbai and hence the same could be witnessed over north Maharashtra. However, if the weather conditions change, the monsoon may advance faster,” the officer added.
One of the reasons for the delay, the officer said is the cyclone, Biparjoy. The course of the cyclone is currently parallel to the Indian shoreline heading north. This cyclone is taking away the moisture and creating some dry
space which will affect the advancement of the monsoon.
On Friday late evening, gusty winds and lightning struck the parts of Malegaon, Deola, Kalwan and Baglan talukas.
According to the district officials, the roofs of some houses in Pimpalgaon in Deola taluka blew off, while houses and poultry in Pilkos in Kalwan taluka and Baglan taluka were damaged.
In Malegaon, one calf died in the rain while a goat was killed due to lightning in Balgan taluka.
