I suggested Supriya’s name for working prez post: Ajit Pawar

NEW DELHI: Putting anend to speculations that he is unhappy with NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s decision to make Supriya Sule and Praful Patel working presidents of the party, Ajit Pawar on Saturday said it was he who had suggested Sule’s name for the post. Ajit also said he will be concentrating on state politics.
He was in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the party’s foundation day programme where the announcement regarding the appointments of Sule, Patel and some other office-bearers was made. After the programme, Ajit travelled to Pune and interacted with reporters. “Immediately after the programme, I had to catch a flight to Pune. Therefore, I could not speak to the media, but by the time I reached the airport, I started getting calls, inquiring about rumours being spread that I was unhappy (with the party’s decision). I had already decided to interact with the media after landing in Pune, and here I am telling everyone that I am quite happy with the decision. I have already wished all the office-bearers from my social media handle,” Ajit said.
Ajit said: “We had formed a committee (after Pawar’s resignation) in which a resolution was passed to reject his resignation. At that time too, I had suggested Sule’s name for the working president’s post, but other committee members were of the opinion that we should not discuss any suggestion other than requesting Pawar to withdraw his resignation. I respected the call of the majority of the committee members and did not drag the matter further. ”
When asked about opposition parties saying that he was being sidelined and had no responsibility within his party, Ajit said: “Those who are saying that I have not got any responsibility should understand that I have the responsibility of being the leader of the opposition (of Maharashtra Assembly). I am already doing my job. It is our internal matter, and others should stayout of it. ”
