VISAKHAPATNAM:
Andhra Pradesh has become a hotbed for rampant corruption and anarchy, Union home minister Amit Shah said at a public meeting in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
The former BJP president alleged that there had been nothing but scams and lawlessness in the four-year YSRCP’s rule in Andhra Pradesh.
Shah continued the scathing attack on YSRCP on Sunday, a day after BJP’s national president JP Nadda called the YSRCP ‘one of the most corrupt governments’ in Srikalahasti on Saturday.
Referring to chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as ‘Jagan Babu’, Amit Shah said that Andhra Pradesh occupies third place in the country in terms of the number of farmers’ suicides.
“But it is ironic to see ‘Jagan Babu’ claiming Andhra Pradesh under his rule as a farmer welfare state. Rs 6,000 annual financial assistance is deposited under Prime Minister Kisan Yojana in the accounts of farmers. But Jagan Babu is cheating the farmers by rebranding the same scheme in Andhra Pradesh as ‘Rythu Bharosa.’
“He even affixes his sticker to the rice being supplied by the Union government to the poor. Antisocial elements such as land mafia, mining mafia, and even pharmaceutical mafia have made Visakhapatnam their hub and have been robbing the public,” Amit Shah alleged.
“During the UPA regime between 2009 and 2014, Andhra Pradesh got Rs 78,000 crore in grants-in-aid and of tax devolution. The allocations have seen manifold increase in the last 9 years with the state bagging nearly Rs 10 lakh crore funding from the Centre. The length of the national highways in AP increased to 9,000km from 4,000km in the last 9 years. The BJP government is spending Rs 3 lakh crore on national highway projects in AP. Another Rs 85,000 crore is being spent on infrastructure development under Sagarmala,” Shah said.
The Union home minister explained the projects sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh during the BJP regime in the last 9 years, including the central educational institutions, smart city project being implemented in four cities of the state, Bhogapuram airport, logistic parks in Anantapur in Vizag, bulk drug park in Kakinada, airport projects in Kurnool an and Kadapa, etc.
“I request the people of Andhra Pradesh to ensure a win for BJP in 20 Lok Sabha seats of the state to make Narendra Modi the prime minister for the third time with more than 300 LS seats. India now commands the attention of the world and global reputation. The honour and respect do not only belong to Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also every one of the 140 crore Indians,” Amit Shah said.
BJP national general secretary Daggubati Purandeswari said that YSRCP had turned Andhra Pradesh into a state of financial ruin and debts.
“YSRCP, which rebrands all the Union government schemes as their own, stands no moral ground to make objectionable comments against BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda,” Purandeswari said.
BJP Andhra Pradesh president Somu Veerraju alleged corruption on all fronts in Andhra Pradesh, from liquor and sand to land grabbing and mining.
BJP in-charge for Andhra Pradesh and minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan, BJP co in-charge for Andhra Pradesh Sunil Deodhar, BJP national secretary Satya Kumar, former AP chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, Rajya Sabha members GVL Narasimaha Rao and CM Ramesh, BJP leaders PVN Madhav and Vishnu Kumar Raju, and others were present in the meeting.
