Heatwave likely in 8 dists for 3 days: IMD
Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions will prevail at isolated places in some interior districts for the next three days from Sunday, the IMD said on Saturday.
The districts likely to witness heatwave conditions are Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh and Keonjhar.
Besides there is possibility of thunderstorm at some places, the forecast said.
On Saturday, at least seven interior towns recorded temperatures around 44C and above. Jharsuguda recorded the day’s highest temperature of 44.8 degrees. Sambalpur and Boudh each followed with at 44.6 degrees. The city recorded a maximum of 38.2C but thunderstorms in the afternoon brought some relief. Cuttack too recorded 38.2 degrees.
H R Biswas, head of of the regional IMD centre here, said heatwave with hot and discomforting weather is very likely continue at some places for the next three-four days.
TP Central Odisha Distribution Company Limited has said that it immediately mobilised its skilled workforce to restore power supply in the affected areas after a Nor’wester on Thursday caused power outage in many areas. The statement came after chief secretary Pradip Jena expressed displeasure over the restoration work. By 6.45 pm on Thursday, approximately 90% of the 33kV feeders were successfully restored, the statement read.
