‘Which party doesn’t have it?’: Supriya Sule defends nepotism after getting top post in NCP
1 min read 11 Jun 2023, 05:09 PM ISTSupriya Sule has defended nepotism, stating that she cannot go away from it and asking which party doesn't have it

Supriya Sule on Sunday opened up about the nepotism debate a day after she was appointed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) working president along with Praful Patel, saying that she cannot go away from nepotism and asking which party doesn’t have it. Noting that she is a proud daughter of Sharad and Pratibha Pawar, Supriya Sule said she would never run away from nepotism.
Speaking with reporters, Supriya Sule asserted that performance should be considered when talking about nepotism. “I can't go away from nepotism...Which party doesn't have nepotism? Why can't we talk about performance when talking about nepotism...Look at my parliamentary performance," Supriya Sule said.
Supriya Sule also thanked all NCP cadre and leaders, saying her priority is strengthening the party. “I am grateful to all NCP cadre, leaders and Mr Pawar [father Sharad Pawar] for showing faith in me. My priority is strengthening the party," Supriya Sule said.
When asked about no party post to Ajit Pawar and the reports that he was not happy, Supriya Sule said, “Who says he is not happy, has anybody asked him? Reports are gossip."
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar, too, broke his silence over the suggestions, saying he was “happy" and one of the decision-makers in the recent developments within the party ranks.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday declared his daughter Supriya Sule and former Union minister Praful Patel as working presidents of the party, marking a generational shift in the organisation and triggering speculation about sidelining nephew Ajit Pawar, who has displayed rebellious streaks in the past.
Sharad Pawar also appointed Supriya Sule as the chairperson of the party's Central Election Authority and in-charge of Maharashtra, the only state where the NCP has a formidable electoral presence.
