SDO: Bandh peaceful in Bokaro
Bokaro: The bandh called to protest Jharkhand government’s newly implemented 60:40 recruitment policy had its impact in some pockets of the district on Saturday. While the bandh had no effect on Bokaro township, protestors took to the streets and blocked roads in several parts of Bermo sub-division, including Phusro, Nawadih, and Petarwar blocks.
Bermo SDO Anant Kumar stated, “The bandh affected a few areas but it passed off peacefully. The police have been instructed to identify the protesters and take appropriate legal action against them.”
In Petarwar, the local unit of the Jharkhand State Students Union blocked NH 23 at Petarwar-Tenu Chowk. The blockade lasted for over one-and-a-half hours, causing great inconvenience to commuters. The Bokaro-Ramgarh road also experienced a long queue of vehicles. The protesters raised slogans such as “60:40 Nay Chalto” (We reject the 60:40 policy) and “Hemant Soren murdabad” (Down with Hemant Soren).
