TWO persons including a nine-year-old girl were killed, and 12 others were injured in an accident involving four heavy vehicles—two buses, a truck and a conta-iner—on the Pune to Satara patch of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway in Bhor taluka of Pune district on Sunday morning. Two of the 12 injured people were in critical condition, police officials said.
Officials from Pune Rural police said the mishap took place around 8 am at Varve Budruk village, located 40 km from Pune City. “Initially, a private bus, when it was turning onto the service road, was hit by a container on the Satara to Pune corridor.
After the impact, the container crossed over to the opposite corridor and hit a truck coming from the opposite direction. Because the truck came to a sudden halt, a state transport Shivshahi bus brushed with the truck and landed into a roadside ditch,” said Inspector Sachin Patil, in-charge of the Rajgad police station.
Inspector Patil further said, “The driver of the private bus and a nine-year-old girl from the Shivshahi bus lost their lives in the accident. Eight persons have been injured in the accident, of whom two are in a critical condition.” Officials said that while the private bus was on its way to Pune from Mysore, the Shivshahi bus was on its way to Sangli from Pune.
The deceased Rutuja Ravindra Chavan (9) as from Kondhwe Dhawade in Pune, while private bus driver Shivrajkumar HR Rangaswami Gauda (34) is a resident of Hassan in Karnataka, officials said.
