Traffic cops issue over 26K challans to violators in first five months
Prayagraj: Over 26,000 violators in the district were challaned in the past five months (from January to May) for not wearing helmets, revealed data of traffic police department. Statistics revealed that highest 6752 challans were issued in March followed by April (5873), February (4146) and January (3773).
Around 88,559 challans were issued to violators for not wearing helmets while driving two wheelers last year. Traffic police authorities said: “We have been making sincere efforts to implement road safety norms in order to minimize the graph of road accidents in terms of fatal and non-fatal categories. Apart from issuing challans, we are also taking up educational and awareness campaign among target groups and appealing two-wheeler riders to wear helmets in all circumstances for their safety or ready to face music. Special teams have been deployed at all static locations to maintain a strict surveillance on traffic norms violators.” tnn
