Man booked in cheating case
Thiruvananthapuram: Poojappura police have registered a case against a Balaramapuram native Santhosh for cheating various people by accepting money from them in the name of providing jobs in the railways.
Though he took approximately Rs 1.5 crore from about 20 job seekers, the case has been registered by police on the basis of a petition filed by Adarsh, a native of Pongumoodu, who had given Rs 8 lakh for a clerical job in the railways. According to the complainant, the accused received money in front of Anwar Gardens in Poojappura, which houses the residences of various railway officials. The police said they have verified the bank account of the accused and had confirmed that he had indeed accepted money from several job seekers. It was also verified that those who paid the money, had paid in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 17 lakh for various posts in railways, including clerk and junior engineer posts.
The complainants were then taken to Chennai and a test was conducted using OMR sheets. They were also taken to a hospital for a medical test. The chain of events took place between June 2022 and January 2023. As no jobs were provided to them even after five months, one of the victims approached the police. The accused have been charged under the sections 419, 420 and 34 of the IPC.
Police had earlier probed a case, wherein accused took money from many promising jobs in Travancore Titanium Limited. TNN
