14-year-old booked for post in praise of Aurangzeb
CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR:Police have booked a 14-year-old boy from Ashti in Beed district on the charge of putting up a social media message eulogising Aurangzeb, prompting some right-wing organisations to call a bandh in the town on Friday in protest against the post though the teenager had subsequently deleted it.
Three days ago, the display of Aurangzeb’s posters in Ahmednagar district and a social media post glorifying Tipu Sultan in Kolhapur had triggered violence. Keeping this in mind, the Ashti police registered an FIR against the teenager who is currently out of the town.
A teenager who posted a video message on his social media account on Thursday sparked an online row, with local residents immediately sharing the clip, leading to tension in the town, the police said. On learning about the situation, the boy deleted the post and shared another apologising for “inadvertently hurting sentiments” of some people.
Superintendent of police Nand Kumar Thakur told TOI, “We have registered an FIR against the teenager for his post, which is said to have been deleted. ”
The police also contacted a relative of the boy and informed him about the fallout of the post and the FIR. “The boy will be detained when he returns to the town and produced before the child welfare committee for a remand in a correction facility meant for children,” an officer said.
The police said no untoward incident was reported in the town during the bandh, during which most trade and business remained closed.
