BENGALURU: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah will don the role of a bus conductor on June 11 to launch the 'Shakti' scheme, which offers free travel for women in state road transport corporation buses.
The scheme is one of the five guarantees promised by Congress ahead of the state assembly elections.
According to the chief minister's office, Siddaramaiah will become a conductor on Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus route No. 43 and issue pink tickets to passengers. The bus will start its journey from the city's Majestic area and end near Vidhana Soudha, a distance of about 4km.
Rice scheme to be launched in Mys on July 1 Siddaramaiah will interact with bus passengers during his travel. Later, the CM will address a public function organised at Soudha.
A CMO statement said Siddaramaiah has directed district in-charge ministers, along with respective legislators, to flag off the services in their districts and constituencies simultaneously and ensure the Shakti scheme reaches "all the eligible beneficiaries, beyond caste, religion, and class".
"The Shakti scheme will bring relief to the women of the state, who were in distress due to inflation. The government is implementing all guaranteed schemes within a month of coming to power, even though it requires huge fund mobilisation," it added.
Meanwhile, the scheme to distribute 10kg of free rice to BPL families will be launched in Mysuru on July 1. The Griha Lakshmi scheme, under which women heads will get a Rs 2,000 monthly allowance, will be inaugurated on August 15.
