Pawar appoints Praful Patel, Supriya Sule as NCP's working presidents

Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar officially appointed Praful Patel and Supriya Sule as working presidents of the party on Saturday. The major announcement from the veteran politician came on the NCP's 25th anniversary, which was founded by him and PA Sangma in 1999. Notably, the announcement was made in the presence of Ajit Pawar, a key leader of the NCP.

Why does this story matter?

The move comes just a month after Pawar had offered to resign as the NCP president, which was followed by fervent demonstrations from the members of the party as well as numerous other political leaders. An NCP panel, formed by the party to assess the 82-year-old's decision, rejected his resignation on May 5 and urged him to continue as the party president.

Know about Sule and Patel's new responsibilities

According to the news outlet India Today, Sule has been given the responsibility of the NCP's Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, women, youth, and Lok Sabha Coordination units. On the other hand, Patel will look after the Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan arms. Furthermore, the party's National General Secretary, Sunil Tatkare, will be looking after West Bengal, Odisha, farmers, and minority departments.

Sule on being appointed NCP working president

After Pawar's announcement, Sule took to Twitter and said she was deeply grateful to the party. She also added that she was determined to justify the trust reposed in her by the NCP. "I and Prafulbhai Patel were elected as working presidents in a program organized on the occasion of NCP's anniversary. I am deeply grateful to the party organization for this," she tweeted.

It is believed that NCP leaders, functionaries, workers, and well-wishers have received good support in the past, and it will continue in the future." Recalling Pawar's reaction to NCP panel rejecting his resignation

Earlier, after the NCP panel rejected his resignation last month, Pawar said, "I can't disrespect your sentiments. Due to your love, I am respecting the demand that was made to me to withdraw my resignation and the resolution that was passed by senior NCP leaders."
