MCC okays pay-and-park plan for 3 major roads

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday approved the proposal for the pay-and-park project at three major roads in the central business district.
Vehicle users will have to pay money for parking on D Devaraj Urs Road, Sayyaji Rao Road and Ashoka Road. Pay-and-park will also be implemented at the Town Hall. Following the approval, a tender will be called and once the process is completed, the pay-and-park facility will be launched.
There was also a proposal to introduce pay-and-park facilities at Vinoba Road, Harsha Road and Dhanvantri Road along with the other four roads, but it was turned down during a special meeting of the MCC Council, which was presided over by mayor Shivakumar.
The civic body also approved the revision of rent for 1,941 tenants, who have shops belonging to the corporation in various markets and other locations across the city. The last time the revision of rent was done was in 2003. The MCC Council also decided to meet the tenants to explore the possibilities of out-of-court settlement since many of them had moved courts in connection to various issues.
Land sanctioned for betel leaf growers
Meanwhile, the civic body also approved sanction of 5 guntas land each to 46 betel leaf growers in Mysuru, subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions. The land to the growers will be granted at the sewage farm located in Vidyaranyapuram. The MCC Council, amidst protest by Congress corporators, also approved the sanction of 2 acre sewage farmland for Veerashaiva burial grounds located at Vidyaranyapuram. Mayor Shivakumar said that the decision of the council will be sent to the state government for approval, since MCC has no powers for the transfer of land.
This apart, the council also instructed the officials to ensure proper maintenance of all 62 public toilets coming under MCC limits. The officials were also instructed to immediately take up the clearance drive of private company cables that have been fixed on electric poles belonging to the Mysuru City Corporation.
