Monsoon likely to enter state between June 18 and 20: IMD
Ranchi: The southwest monsoon is likely to set over Jharkhand’s northern districts between June 18 and June 20, weather experts at the Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have forecast.
However, the weather office has not forecast any immediate relief from the scorching heat and said the heatwave conditions will continue for a few more days across the state.
“The southwest monsoon has set over Kerala on Thursday. It usually takes 10-12 days to reach Jharkhand’s northern districts,” IMD Ranchi scientist Abhishek Anand said.
Usually, the monsoon arrives in the state around June 11. According to the weather office, a deviation of onset ranging between four days to a week is considered normal.
“There will be no significant changes in the maximum temperatures across the state in the next four days. Heatwave conditions will prevail in isolated parts and daytime temperatures will remain above normal,” Anand said.
The IMD on Friday issued heatwave alerts across 21 districts for the next two days. Of the 21, Giridih, Deoghar and Godda have been issued orange alerts.
Ranchi recorded 39.2°C on Friday while Jamshedpur and Daltonganj recorded 43.4°C. Bokaro recorded 41.2°C while Godda recorded 44.1°C.
