Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will open field centres for studies in Bhima Bhoi and Mahima Dharma at Kandhara in Sambalpur district and Khaliapali in Subarnapur district by spending more than Rs 5 crore. These centres will work under the Gangadhar Meher University (GMU), Sambalpur.
Mahima
Dharma is a humanist cult. Bhima Bhoi was a great philosopher of Mahima Dharma and a 19th century poet. The essence of this cult can be found in the writings of this poet. GMU, a state public university, has also set up a Bhima Bhoi Research Chair to carry out interdisciplinary research in the arena of social sciences.
The higher education department approved this project proposal of the GMU on Friday. These field centres will study and disseminate works of Bhima Bhoi and the living faith of Mahima Dharma from an inclusive perspective and develop a history of the communities of the faith.
Kandhara village is the place of enlightenment of Bhima Bhoi. A resource-cum-documentation centre will come up at this place.
