A Miami man, one of the arrested in 2021, convicted of several charges including battery on a Collier County deputy, will spend 15 years behind bars.

Tim Marquis Jones, 31, serve 15 years in prison for fleeing to elude, as well as more than six years for battery on a law enforcement officer and given credit time served for no valid driver’s license.

On Dec. 22, 2021, a Collier County deputy, assigned to the Street Gang Unit, was conducting a follow-up investigation at the Waterside Shops in North Naples, in reference to a string of thefts. A black four-door Kia with a New Jersey license plate was identified as possibly being involved in the crimes.

Jones and the other defendants stole purses valued at $5,370.

While at the shopping center, the deputy saw the vehicle and watched as the driver, later identified asJones, drove past a stop sign without stopping. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the car quickly made a turn out of the shopping center and onto Tamiami Trail North.

Jones began weaving in and out of heavy traffic. The deputy made two more attempts to pull the car over, activating emergency lights and sirens.

A short distance ahead, two other Collier County deputies tried to stop the vehicle. When they attempted to use their vehicles to box the car in, the driver crashed into one of the law enforcement vehicles and continued driving.

The car then made a quick turn and stopped at the Naples Grande Beach Resort and Hotel. Jones jumped out and ran inside the hotel with deputies in pursuit. They apprehended him in a bathroom.
