HYDERABAD: Government school students can expect sweeping changes this academic year. As per senior officials, ‘ragi java’ drinks will greet students when schools reopen on June 12. Also, they will receive a 250ml porridge, thrice a week. This treat aims to combat malnutrition and anemia in the target group.
The children up to 10th grade in Telangana already receive mid-day meals in their schools for six days a week, and this will serve as an additional supplement to their well-being.
Officials also mentioned that there won’t be any major curriculum changes this year, but teachers and students will receive additional materials to continue the transition from Telugu to English medium for the second year.
The new academic year is set to commence on Monday, marking the start of a captivating two-week bridge course that will conclude on July 1.
“This year, our focal point remains bridging the numeracy and literacy gaps that surfaced during the pandemic. Simultaneously, we strive to foster the growth of children’s English language proficiency,” said an official from the department.
The schools have been advised to strengthen the parent-teacher connection and incorporate meditation, yoga classes, and newspaper reading sessions for an hour daily to promote overall growth. A ‘no school bag’ day has also been scheduled once a month.
Meanwhile, the Badi Bata programme, in its final phase, has witnessed an enrolment of 1,36,537 students since June 3. The programme will continue until the weekend. Previously, education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy announced that students will receive free workbooks, notebooks, and two sets of uniforms. Additionally, teachers will be provided with tablets, and select schools will have digital classrooms.
