Vadodara: Facing criticism for inordinate delays in starting academic sessions on time, MS University officials have now decided to speed up the recruitment process of temporary teachers.
Officials have decided to complete the process before the new academic session begins at the university campus.
It is worth mentioning here that much of the teaching work at MSU is handled by temporary teachers. Even otherwise, the recruitment freeze that the university is facing is pushing the varsity’s academics into an abyss. In the past one decade, MSU has recruited less than 150 teachers even though over 700 permanent teaching posts are lying vacant across the campus.
During the last academic year, some of the largest faculties of the university including commerce and arts could not start their classes on time. It was for the first time that the appointment of temporary teachers had got delayed beyond
Diwali vacation.
First-year commerce classes (BCom) started in November last year at the faculty which counts for nearly half of the university’s total student strength. The interview process of appointing temporary teachers at the faculty got over only in November.
But since the model code of conduct was in place in view of the assembly elections, even the selected teachers were asked to work as visiting faculties. It was after the model code of conduct got lifted that the selected teachers joined as temporary teachers.
Ironically, while MSU has been delaying the appointment process year after year, candidates aspiring to join as temporary teachers start joining private universities neighbouring Vadodara before the new session begins.
