Stench from rotten eggs in coach: Official
Bhubaneswar: After locals complained of foul smell emanating from the damaged coaches at Bahanaga Bazar level-crossing in Balasore district, the accident site, the South Eastern Railway (SER) on Friday clarified that it was coming out of eggs kept inside a parcel van of the derailed train.
Local people at Bahanaga speculated that one of the damaged coaches have dead bodies. Foul smell was coming out of the parcel van. But the railway official put an end to the speculation on Friday.
Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, chief public relations officer, SER, told TOI that the railways has received site clearance twice from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). “We have got clearance from the state government and police too. They checked the coach again and again. The smell was coming out of rotten eggs,” he added.
He said there were around four tonnes of eggs inside a parcel van of the accident-hit Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast train.
