Nigerian man held with mephedrone worth over Rs 1 crore in Thane
A 35-year-old Nigerian man was arrested for alleged possession of mephedrone worth more than Rs 1 crore in neighbouring Thane district, police said on Saturday.
MUMBAI: A Nigerian man (35) was arrested for alleged possession of mephedrone valued at over Rs 1 crore in Thane district, police said on Saturday.
The suspect was apprehended by the anti-narcotics cell of the MBVV police in the Mira Road area on Thursday.
During the arrest, the police discovered 503 grams of mephedrone, estimated to be worth more than Rs 1 crore, in the possession of the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that the individual resided in Pragati Nagar locality in Nallasopara and was involved in the distribution of illegal substances in various parts of Mumbai and its neighboring areas.
''The accused, who was lodged at Yerwada Jail, had recently come out on bail in a similar case and some of his associates are also under scanner. A case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered,'' inspector Amar Marathe said.
