HYDERABAD: Last-minute flyers to Hyderabad are feeling the heat even before landing.
The price of tickets to the city have hit the roof thanks to limited availability as flights are packed with holidayers from city returning home at the end of summer vacation as schools are set to open from Monday.
However, those flying out of Hyderabad at the same time seem to have been spared the price pain.
While the cheapest flight from Hyderabad to Delhi is around Rs 6,000 on June 9, a flight in the return direction on the same day is at over Rs 15,000.
"Many people are coming back to Hyderabad from their vacation. So, there is a very small inventory of seats left for airlines which they are selling for a premium," said Nagesh Pampati, chairman, Travel Agents Association of India, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh chapter.
Sky-high air fares burn hole in flyers' pocketsNagesh pointed out that when it comes to flying out of Hyderabad there is not much of a demand. "I travelled to Bengaluru a few days back and booked my flight just three days in advance for ₹3,500. The demand is only for flights coming into Hyderabad," he added.
The suspension of Go First flights from some sectors to the city has only added to the strain on the purse for flyers to the city.
A quick internet scan revealed the same trend as flights flying from various destinations, including Vijayawada, Mumbai, Chennai, Tirupati, Bengaluru among others are selling at a much higher price than tickets to these destinations from Hyderabad. "I had to go to Hyderabad on office work last week and had to shell out about ₹14,000 for a one-way ticket. While going back on Monday, I hardly paid ₹7,000," said D Amit Kumar, an accountant from Delhi.
Uday K, a techie from the city who went on a Himachal trip, said that he too had to spend over ₹12,000 per ticket to Hyderabad as he couldn't book in advance. "It was a last-minute plan. As schools are scheduled to reopen on June 12, we had to book tickets at a higher price. But the fare was exorbitant," he added.
