PANAJI: Police on Thursday booked an undertrial for trying to escape from the Colvale central jail.
Deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Jivba Dalvi said that jailor Mukund Gawas lodged a complaint that at about 1pm on Wednesday, when prisoners were moved for fresh air and free movement into the new admission block, undertrial Pradeep Khalko attempted to escape from the jail by climbing the inner compound wall taking support of the ground floor roof and the gate.
Recently, IG (prison) Omvir Singh had conducted a surprise visit and seized mobile phone from inmates.
Colvale central jail is the only functioning prison in the state and convicts and undertrials have been kept in same jail.
