In court statement, model says ‘rapist’ tried to convert her
Ranchi: A model, who levelled charges of “rape” and a bid to convert her against a Ranchi-based modelling institute head, Tanvir Akhtar, recorded her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC before the judicial magistrate in the Ranchi court on Thursday. Police brought her to the court of judicial magistrate-1 Shristi Ghai around 9 am for recording her statement after the completion of legal formalities.
After the exercise, the model said she hopes to get justice as she has full faith in the court and the police. “My family and I are living under threat from Akhtar,” she alleged. The model arrived here on Wednesday and underwent medical tests in connection with the case on Wednesday.
The complainant had come to Ranchi in 2021 to learn modelling in the institute run by Akhtar. The accused threw a party on Holi the same year and allegedly drugged and raped her. When the accused started blackmailing her over the video, the model left for her native, Bhagalpur, in Bihar. She later shifted to Mumbai but Akhtar visited her and tried to force her to convert and marry him. She registered a zero FIR against Tanvir with the Versova police station in Mumbai. The complaint was transferred last week to the Gonda police station, which registered a case under IPC sections 376, 323, 540, and 506. Raids are underway to nab the accused, police said.
