No respite from heatwave in Bihar till June 12: Met office

PATNA: The scorching heat has thrown normal life out of gear as the state is facing a continuous spell of blistering heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts for several districts till June 12.
The IMD has issued orange alerts for 10 districts, including Patna, East and West Champaran and Purnia on Friday, indicating a severe heatwave, while a yellow alert has been issued for 16 districts, including Darbhanga, Nawada and Nalanda.
The northern and north-central districts of Bihar are likely to experience temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees C till June 12, while the north-eastern and southern regions will face temperatures between 42 to 44 degrees C till June 10, with an expected fall of two notches in the following two days.
As per the Patna Meteorological Centre's evening bulletin, severe heatwave was declared in 16 districts including Patna, Nalanda and Vaishali on Thursday, while heatwave was declared in eight districts, including Nawada, Jamui and Aurangabad.
Khagaria recorded the highest maximum temperature at 44.5 degrees C on Thursday closely followed by Valmikinagar in West Champaran at 44.1 degrees C. Patna registered a maximum temperature of 44 degrees C.
Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, stated, "Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over the state along with heatwave conditions for the next four days. The intensity of the heat, along with its spatial distribution, will start to decrease from Sunday."
A glimmer of hope in the form of rainfall is expected at isolated places over the districts of north-east Bihar from June 10 to 12.
