Ranchi: A day after the urban development department directed all municipal bodies across the state to ensure the cleaning of existing drains within 10 days ahead of the ensuing monsoon, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified the cleaning work on a war-footing in several areas to prevent waterlogging and inundation issues during the rains.
RMC officials said though they began the cleaning a few days back, they are now conducting a second round. The civic body has taken this proactive approach and cleaned over 55 large drains and over 700 minor drains in the city before the monsoon so that waterlogging does not occur at all.
The civic body has also come up with a detailed action plan to combat waterlogging. It includes measures like deploying additional pumps to drain out water, clearing bottlenecks and identifying vulnerable areas in the city that are prone to flooding.
An official of the RMC said, “This time, we prioritised cleaning the sewers in those locations where waterlogging takes place even after mild showers. Over 800 people were involved in the process to clean the sewers. For improved outcomes, the cleanliness is being conducted twice.”
Some drains that are difficult to clean using workers and JCBs are being tackled using super-sucker machines.
People who want to lodge complaints related to the drains can contact the toll-free numbers 9431104429 or 0651-2200011 & 0651-2200025, RMC officials said.
