LUCKNOW: A 15-year-old boy was rounded up by the Lucknow police in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found hanging from the ceiling of her room in Indiranagar area of the state capital on Thursday.
The minor was apprehended by the police following a named FIR lodged against him by the family of the girl. The autopsy report which came on late Wednesday night revealed strangulation as the cause of her death, hinting it to be a case of murder, while the examination ruled out rape or sexual assault.
Initially, an FIR was lodged on Wednesday afternoon, between 1.30 pm and 2 pm, in which the girl's mother had alleged that the 15-year-old boy had barged into her house and allegedly forced himself upon her daughter and attacked her with a hammer to kill her after sexually assaulting her.
He then hanged her from the ceiling of a room at the house to make her death look like a case of suicide.
The woman had also alleged that she had spotted the boy coming out of the house. The victim's mother had also said that when she went inside, she was shocked to see the girl hanging from the ceiling with a dupatta tied around her neck. She later informed the police.
DCP North Qasim Abidi said the post-mortem of the girl was conducted by a panel of doctors and was video-graphed for investigation, which revealed strangulation but ruled out rape.
He said the minor miscreant was under police custody and was being interrogated by the police.
"The minor boy has said that he had not gone to her house on the fateful day and was being framed. The CCTVs are being checked," said Abidi.
