Coimbatore corporation land worth Rs 6 crore retrieved

COIMBATORE: A team of officials from the town planning department retrieved land worth 6 crore belonging to the city corporation in the east zone on Thursday.
A private person had encroached upon the Kalapatti Tech Park Road parallel to his land in Emami Layout, said town planning officer Kumar, who detected the irregularity three months ago.
“The landowner opposed our plans to retrieve it. We checked documents and deployed a surveyor to measure the disputed land. After the surveyor confirmed encroachment, we launched a drive to take back possession of the land,” he said.
Earthmovers were used to remove the fence put up by the encroacher. “Some people tried to stop the officials, but police personnel pacified them,” Kumar added.
