Man shoots stray dog to death at Ramachettipalayam, held
Coimbatore: A 45-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for shooting a stray dog to death after it chased his goats while they were grazing near Ramachettipalayam. Police have seized an air gun from him.
The Perur police identified the arrested person as Vadivel, of Visaka Garden at Ramachettipalayam.
According to a police officer, Vadivel was rearing chicken and goats next to his house. “He was in the habit of letting his goats graze in a nearby place, where stray dogs often went after them. He would run after the dogs every time they chase his goats and prevent them from injuring his livestock.”
On Monday, the officer said, Vadivel spotted a few stray dogs chasing his goats. “He lost his temper and took out an air gun from his house and fired at a dog. The injured dog died on the spot.”
A woman saw the incident and alerted the Perur police on Tuesday. Police registered a case against Vadivel and arrested him the same day based on her complaint.
