Since 2011, city sees 2nd highest max temp in June
Guwahati: The impact of global warming and climate change is very much evident in Guwahati as the mercury level soared to 38.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is the second highest maximum temperature recorded in the city since 2011, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
The highest maximum temperature in the month of June in Guwahati was 39 degrees Celsius and was recorded on June 13, 2019.
Earlier, the city had recorded its highest maximum temperature in the month of January as the mercury level rose upto 30 degrees Celsius on January 30.
Sanjay O’Neil Shaw, deputy director general of meteorology of RMD, Guwahati, said the maximum temperature in Guwahati on Wednesday rose by nearly 7 degrees above normal to touch 38.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature rose by 0.6 degree above normal to touch 25 degrees Celsius.
The Met data also shows that Guwahati witnessed the hottest day on Wednesday in the entire northeast region, followed by Tezpur (Assam) at 38 degrees Celsius, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) at 37.2 degrees Celsius and Silchar (Assam) at 37 degree Celsius.
